Carpet for Christmas: How to Get Yours Fitted in Time

Blog Post Images (14)

Want carpet for Christmas? Nobody looks at a tired carpet in March. In December, with the whole family round, it’s the first thing everyone sees. If you want new carpet down before the big day, the only thing that really matters is when you book. Here’s how it works.

Quick answer: to get new carpet fitted before Christmas 2026, book your free home visit by 20 October. Fitting usually happens around 4 to 6 weeks after you book, and booking by that date means you’re covered by our Christmas Fitting Guarantee. You can spread the cost with a weekly or monthly plan of up to £1,500, based on what you can afford, so December doesn’t take the hit.

How long does it take to get carpet fitted?

From booking to fitting day, it’s usually around 4 to 6 weeks. The fitting itself is quick, often a day or less for a few rooms, so the wait is for your fitting slot, not the work.

Here’s the usual order of things. Your rep visits your home, and you choose your carpet in your own living room. We then book your fitting date, and your fitter arrives and gets it done. If you want to see what’s on offer first, browse our carpet range.

Because of that lead time, Christmas deadlines come round faster than people expect. Booking in late November is too late for most households.

When do I need to book carpet for Christmas?

Book by 20 October. That’s the date for our Christmas Fitting Guarantee, which means we’ll get your floors fitted before Christmas if you book by then.

Fitting dates fill up through November and December, as plenty of households want the same thing at the same time. Booking early gives you the most choice of dates.

Surveys suggest around two thirds of Brits host guests over the festive period, and many make home improvements first. A worn carpet is one of the first things visitors notice, and one of the easiest to fix.

Rule of thumb: work backwards from Christmas. Allow 4 to 6 weeks from booking to fitting, and book before the guarantee date.

Which rooms should I carpet first?

Start with the rooms that get the most use and the most visitors. You don’t need to do the whole house to make a difference.

  • Living room: it’s where everyone sits, so worn carpet shows most here.
  • Stairs and hallway: everyone walks through them, and they wear out first.
  • Spare bedroom: a fresh room makes overnight guests feel welcome.

Plenty of customers do one or two rooms before Christmas and the rest in the new year. If it’s a child’s room, our guide to the best carpet for a child’s bedroom covers cost and safety.

Can I pay weekly or monthly for carpet?

Yes. With My Dream Flooring you can get up to £1,500 of flooring and pay in small weekly or monthly amounts, so you don’t face one big bill in the most expensive month of the year.

You choose a payment that fits your budget. If you’re new to how this works, our guide to how pay weekly flooring works explains it step by step, and our post on how much it costs to replace a carpet helps you work out what to budget.

Do you do a credit check?

No. Your plan is based on what you can comfortably afford, not your credit score. Your rep talks through your situation at your home visit and agrees a payment that works for you.

If you’ve been turned down for finance before, that doesn’t rule you out. Our guide to new floors without the credit check goes into more detail.

Is fitting included in the price?

No. Fitting is priced up front at your home visit, but you pay your fitter directly on the day, separate from your weekly or monthly plan.

Removal of your old carpet is also not included in your plan, so factor that in when you plan the job. Knowing both costs from the start means no surprises on fitting day.

How do I get ready for fitting day?

A bit of preparation keeps things quick and stress free.

  • Clear the room: move small furniture, ornaments and anything fragile. Your fitter can help with heavy items, but less to move means a faster job.
  • Plan for the old carpet: our guide to getting your old floor ready for fitting day covers what needs doing and when.
  • Think about underlay: it makes carpet softer and warmer underfoot. Here’s why underlay matters, and our free luxury underlay upgrade may be available on your order, so ask your rep.

What if I miss the booking date?

You can still book. After 20 October, we can’t promise a fitting before Christmas, but we’ll tell you the earliest date we can offer.

If it doesn’t fit before the big day, a January fitting still gets you new floors for the new year. Your rep will talk you through the timing at your home visit.
